Why do Girl Scouts sell cookies?
Everyone loves Girl Scout cookies! And there's a great deal of value behind every box sold. First, and most importantly, the Girl Scouts who sell cookies benefit. Through the Cookie Sale, girls have the opportunity to learn:
- How to meet new people and express themselves
- Working with others
- Setting goals and managing time
- Answering questions with confidence
- Following through on a commitment
- Handling money responsibly
- Being self-reliant by earning troop funds and Cookie Credits for camp, activities and trips
- Self-confidence
- Meeting deadlines
The Cookie Sale is about Girl Scouting. Thanks to money generated by the Cookie Sale, Girl Scouting is able to provide:
- Troop funds for the troops to decide how to spend on activities, projects and trips
- Program and resource materials for troop leaders to use with their girls
- Program equipment, like flags, VCRs, projectors, tents and camping equipment
- Maintenance and improvements to Girl Scouts – Circle T Council's facilities for girls -- two summer resident camps, a scouting lodge, two Girl Scout houses, the Girl Scout Center, and two service centers and shops
- Staff who support girls and the adult volunteers who make Girl Scouting happen
- Financial aid so more girls can be Girl Scouts, go to camp, and participate in activities and events
- Funds for girls to attend day camp and resident camp, and participate in national and international events
- Scholarships
- Program events and activities -- the majority of Circle T's program events are underwritten so that the cost to participate per girl is as low as possible and affordable for a wide range of girls and families
Need Cookies? .
The individual sales portion of the 2008 Girl Scout Cookie Sale ended February 24, 2008. However, you can still get cookies - for a while anyway!
Look for Girl Scout troops hosting booth sales in front of your favorite local businesses, or you may purchase Girl Scout Cookies in the Girl Scout Shops.
